Heber Rec... things to do around town
Heber City has a lot to do locally... and surrounding areas; here are a few ideas in town and around within an hour. We did not include anything in SLC which would take up the whole page.
A lot of people like to take kiddos on the Heber Creeper, an old
train ride that is painfully slow to our modern minds... recommended for boys from 2-8 years old
30 minutes away in Provo Canyon are really "Bridal Veil Falls"
Worth seeing if you are not local. Great ice climbing in the winter too. To get to this canyon you also pass Deer Creek Reservoir rec area.
Solider Hollow is the Olympic Nordic Ski venue from the Olympics and is very well done. LOTS of nordic trails, many many miles. They also have tubing that rocks, see the tubing page. They also have a host of festivals and year round stuff going on there. Check it out.
Locally there is a hot springs underground crater thing... warm water all year, you can even scuba dive and get certified there... yes, 25 min away.
Summer has several rodeos in Utah, these are a blast. Even if you are total "city" you must try to go. The demolition derbys are awesome and sell out in minutes. There are several around the area; search by town, like Kamas, Oakley, American Fork, Days of 47... 20-45 min away and well worth it.
Rocky Mountain Outfitters will do horseback tours as well as a host of other activies like fly fishing, snowmobile tours and the like.
Timpanogus Cave is a killer tour to do... a must see. This is a national park cave, is awesome for the kiddos and adults that can hike to it, it is a steep short hike on pave to enter. Closed in the winter. This is about an hour drive but is really really cool.
Mountain Biking! Deer Valley has a lift-served mountain bike course, really fun, really cool. They also have summer concerts and a lot of stuff on this link. The base of Deer Valley is further from the cabin than the lifts in the winter. In the winter the backside lifts are 20 min, to get to the base of the resort you need to go through old town Park City (cool too) but it takes about 40-45 minutes. The Canyons resort has this as well.
Zermatt Resort is on the other side of Heber, so 25 min away and has a host of summer activities including tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, golf, etc.
River rafting on the Weber River is about an hour away. This link will take you to a guide company that can do groups, and ask them about the Weber River. You can also rent tubes and float the Provo river which is only 20 min away.
